Burley tobacco producers to be surveyed

Researchers with the University of Tennessee Agricultural Policy Analysis Center (APAC) announced they will survey approximately 6,000 producers and former producers of burley tobacco in Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia.

Kelly Tiller, a tobacco policy expert with UT’s APAC, says the survey is designed to collect general information about burley production—how much is being grown, where it’s being grown, how production and production practices have changed and what the future looks like for burley production.

Once the survey data are analyzed, results will be publicly available through University Web sites and publications, county Extension agents and other outlets.

The survey is being funded in part by the Burley Stabilization Corporation.
