Kentucky tops North Carolina tobacco exports

Kentucky became the leading tobacco-exporting U.S. state for fiscal year 2005, with North Carolina a close second, according to the latest USDA report, “U.S. Agricultural Trade Update—State Exports.”

The values of tobacco exports (in millions) of the top six exporting states are Kentucky, $339.9; North Carolina, $291.6; Tennessee, $82.1; Virginia, $61.7; South Carolina, $51.8; and Georgia, $39.6.

The total value of U.S. unmanufactured tobacco exports for 2005 was $983.2 million, ranking 14th among U.S. agricultural export values.
