Philippine tobacco feels threatened by Chinese leaf



An influx of imported tobacco leaves from China is affecting the Philippine tobacco industry, particularly in the Ilocos region, reports Asia Pulse. Roberto Tudayan, president of the Ilocos chapter of the Philippine Councilors League, is asking the government to exempt tobacco from trade liberalization because local cigarette manufacturers are buying large quan-tities of Chinese leaf, threatening an already struggling local tobacco industry.
