TFQ editor recognized by tobacco growers
The Tobacco Growers’ Association of North Carolina (TGANC) presented former TFQ editor Matt Mullen with its prestigious Media Service Award during its annual meeting at the Southern Farm Show in Raleigh.
Mullen received the award for his “fair, accurate and comprehensive” coverage of tobacco farming in North Carolina. The TGANC’s leadership was particularly impressed with Mullen’s coverage of the organization’s 2006 mission trip to Europe.
During the trip, a group of U.S. tobacco farmers visited House of Prince in Denmark and Philip Morris International in Switzerland to learn how to better meet these and other customers’ leaf requirements. Mullen’s report was published in TFQ’s third quarter 2006 issue under the title “Going the extra mile.”
Mullen is the second TFQ reporter to receive a TGANC award. Agricultural writer Rocky Womack, who is a regular contributor to TFQ, is also a TGANC Media Service Award recipient.
